Red, White, and Blue Sweet Treat

The other day I was cleaning out our pantry and dumped all my daughter’s leftover cereals into melted butter and marshmallows. There were about five different cereals all mixed together in this “rice crispy creation”. My very favorite bite? A freeze dried strawberry! I had an ah-ha moment and here we are.

With Memorial Day, Fourth of July, and summer events upon us- I wanted to create a red, white, and blue sweet snack without typical go-tos of artificial dies or sprinkles. Bonus: I am a Kansas Jayhawk Alum so will definitely be using this recipe again for tailgating!

Ingredients:

  • 4 tablespoons butter

  • 1 package (10 oz) Large Marshmallows

  • 3 1/2 cups Trader Joe’s Strawberry Yogurt O’s cereal (I actually “eye-balled” this recipe and went back and tried to figure out measurements, so you may need a few more or less of these depending on how marshmellow-y you want it)

  • 1.2 oz (one Trader Joe’s Package) freeze dried strawberries

  • 1.2 oz (one Trader Joe’s Package) freeze dried raspberries

  • 1 handful (half of a Trader Joe’s Package) freeze dried blueberries

  • 1 package (7 oz) of Trader Joe’s Strawberry and Vanilla Flavored Mini Pretzels

Let's Make It:

1. Melt your butter in a pan on low heat. Add marshmallows and continue to stir until they are completely melted. Remove from heat.

2. Stir in Trader Joe’s strawberry yogurt o’s cereal, freeze dried strawberries, freeze dried raspberries, and freeze dried blueberries. Tip: save a little of each to add on the top (in Step 3) for a beautiful-colorful touch.

3. Press mixture into a 13 x 9 inch pan coated with butter. And press in 1 package of Trader Joe’s Strawberry and Vanilla Flavored Mini Pretzels. The yogurt will melt off these pretzels if added into the mixture during Step 2. Press in remaining freeze dried strawberries, freeze dried raspberries, and freeze dried blueberries saved from Step 2. (Fun random tip: if you squeeze/crush a few freeze dried blueberries- it adds an even more gorgeous blue color- see photos)

4. Cool. Cut into squares. And ENJOY!

XOXO, Sarah J
